Highland Traffic Highland Country Club Harrisburg, Pennsylvania |
Dave Jones has been the golf course superintendent at Highland Country Club in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, for the past six years. The club has a membership of 300 families and the number of golfing rounds played during the season has increased to nearly 50,000 in 1992.
The majority of golfing rounds are played with golf carts. The carts are restricted to the roughs on either side of the fairways and must be parked in designated areas near tees and greens. Very few cart paths have been installed; the few that exist are primarily of gravel composition. In 1990, the officers of the club proposed a $300 assessment from each member to cover the cost of cart path construction; however, the proposal was withdrawn when 40 percent of the members threatened to resign. Currently, a new proposal for a $50 assessment per member per year has been accepted by nearly all members to cover cart paths and other measures to improve the quality of the turf.
