Construction
Miramar was built as a "links" course on naturally occurring dune sand. Sand texture is predominantly fine, with 90 percent of the particles falling between 250 and 125 µm. Greens were planted with 'Egmont' browntop (colonial) bentgrass (Agrostis capillaries L.); however, substantial populations of annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) have invaded, with populations ranging from 20 to 40 percent coverage. Fairways and roughs were planted with a mixture of browntop and fine fescue, while dunes were stabilized with bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon [L.} Pers.).
Toro 734 valve-in-head sprinklers were used for the irrigation
system; however, quick couplers were located at all greens to accommodate
hand watering during the summer months when high winds disrupt sprinkler distribution
patterns.
