Wayne Branthwaite received his Certificate in Turfgrass Management from the Pretoria (South Africa) Technikon in 1984. He served as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Services Golf Club, Pretoria, in 1981-82. In July, 1982, he became Superintendent at Zwartkops Country Club and, in September 1984, took up the post of Assistant Superintendent at the exclusive Gary Player Country Club at Sun City, Bophuthatswana. In July, 1987, he was appointed Superintendent at Sun City where he was responsible for the Million Dollar Golf Challenge played each year at Sun City.
