Toftrees Toftrees Resort Golf Course State College, Pennsylvania |
Lou Morgan was driving his pickup truck into the cold wind of an early March morning when he caught the first glimmer of turf emerging from the winter snow. He expected to see a carpet of green and vibrant shoots ready to meet the challenges of a new golfing season. What he actually saw was quite different. Large patches of brown, dead turf appeared everywhere. Mostly, they occurred in the depressions and swales where water collected. In his many years as a golf course superintendent, Lou had experienced plenty of surprises and a few shocks. But none had touched him so deeply. This wasn't supposed to happen. He had used the emulsifiable-concentrate of Prograss before. He knew what it could do to a stand of annual bluegrass. This time he had used the granular formulation on a fertilizer carrier - the "soft" version. This reaction was anything but soft.
