Lesson 20: Exploring the Ryes
Football at Penn State's Beaver Stadium has always been a thrill to see. John Evans had attended many games since his student days in Happy Valley. But today his view of the turf would not be from the stands, nor would there be a team on the field. John was on his hands and knees examining the turf "up close and personal" with Bob Hudzik, the field manager. He had heard that perennial ryegrass was being used to overseed the principally Kentucky bluegrass turf whenever there was any damage from play. The rapid germination, vigorous seedling growth and excellent wear tolerance of ryegrass made it almost ideal for this purpose. Now, he had the opportunity to see how the ryegrass-bluegrass mixture actually looked and to learn how well it performed in one of the world's most famous football stadiums.
As you reflect John's experience, consider the following questions:

As you review the turfgrasses above, be aware that the information will appear in a second window (as you have seen with some material in earlier lessons). Use the links to review the characteristics of each grass. Close the window to return to this page....
In this lesson you will review information on Fungal Endophytes. When you are finished going through the lesson, access the Lesson 20 Quiz. You can take the quiz up to 5 times. Practice! The questions are just like those you will find on the exams.
