Lesson 24: Exploring the Eragrostoids


Situation

In at least the southern half of the United States, as well as at locations in subtropical and tropical climates throughout the world, the eragrostoid species - bermudagrasses, zoysiagrasses and buffalograss - are important for sports, lawn and utility turfs. In Florida's warm-subtropical-humid and tropical climates, hybrid bermudagrass substitutes for the bentgrasses used in colder climates on greens and other golf turfs. In St. Louis' cool-subtropical-humid climate, zoysiagrass is an important species for fairway turfs. And, with the commercial development of several new cultivars, buffalograss is becoming a popular turfgrass species, especially in dry climates throughout the United States. In your travels, you've seen these species used under many conditions across the entire turfgrass landscape.
